Smartphones made after 2012 and other enabled devices are now usually equipped with Near Field Communication (NFC) which allows them to communicate with other devices that are provisioned with NFC tags as well. The NFC tags have memory of about 96 to 8,192bytes, and are usually read only but can be rewritable. The communication between NFC devices is automatic and quick, taking just less than a tenth of a second.
